Ray was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on April 6, 1956. As a young child, he was raised in the projects of East Harlem. Ray joined the New York City Police Department in January 1987. His career began in the Transit Bureau, Transit District 4 in March 2000. He was the recipient of an Excellent Policy Duty Departmental medal. His colleagues could have attested to his character and beyond.

Ray was a physical fitness guru. He worked out at the gym at least twice a day, and more if he could. He was an avid Karate expert, a bona fide black belt, and was awarded numerous trophies and awards for his efforts. He was a graduate of the Manhattan School of Graphic Arts and Design, and was a few credits shy of his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pace University.

Although Ray and I were together for 10 years prior to getting married, which was one of the happiest day of our lives, aside from the birth of our daughter, Jillian. We never knew how our future and happiness would be cut so short.

Ray coached the track team of Jillian’s grade school, St. Matthias Catholic School. His dedication to the St. Matthias Mustangs was the most important recreational activity he became a part of. Not only did he love being a coach, but he also loved uniting a team with his kindness, encouragement and respect and those attributes were taught to all that he coached. He also taught them that no matter whether they win or lose, the most important thing was that they tried their best as a team, and he would be proud of them regardless.

Ray was a devoted husband and father. His family was his highest and first priority. He adored his children, Sophia, Ray Jr. and Jillian. He was a loving husband, son-in-law and brother-in-law and a friend to many and he cherished every moment to be home with his family and friends.
